When you have extra space in your default hard drive C: and want to save applications, programs, photos, movies, etc in separate hard drive, so you can definitely create and add a new hard drive partition in Windows 7 without formatting your previous data. The thing which is most important when creating a new partition is that you have enough free space to do so. There are some key benefits of creating extra partition in Windows 7, lets have a look over them first.

Benefits of Creating an Extra Partition:

There are many benefits of creating new and separate partition, some of them are as follows:
  1. You have a separate volume and disk, where you can save a copy of your original data.
  2. You can hide partitions in windows 7 due to security and safety issues. So, make partition and hide them as per your need.
  3. If your computer might receive virus attack, usually at the beginning the attack remains restricted to one drive. So, you can safely transfer your data and important information without having harm on them.
  4. Sometimes, backups of your important information and work are not available conveniently so storing and keeping a backup copy of your data in a separate partition on Windows 7 can save your time.

* You should enter 1500-2000 lesser megabyte amount than the available space just to be on safe side.

STEP 4:

This is not actually included in steps but as we're moving step by step that is why I included here to mention this also that when you click over "Finish" you may get a warning notification about Dynamic Disk(s). If you're not using dual booting you can simply ignore this by going for "Yes". But if you have installed more than one operating system, you might loose that benefit here.

STEP 10:
Now enjoy the newly created partition in Windows 7 and store your personal data in extra partition in Windows 7.
