Before using keyboard shortcuts in Gmail you will have to activate it. Here is how you will activate the feature.

Step 1:

Click on settings on the left side after signing into your gmail.

Click on the "lab" tab

Step 2:

Find "Custom Keyboard shortcuts" and click on "enable it"

Step 3:

Click on "save changes" at the bottom to save changes your settings

Shortcut for composing new email

Press "C" it will take you to the composing window where you can compose new email.

Press "shift + C" it will also take you to the composing window but it will open a new popup for it. You will be able to compose new email staying where you curently are.

Keyboard shortcuts for contact management

Press "G + C" to go to the contacts

Press "* + A" it will select all the contacts for you

Press "* + N" it will again deselect all the contacts for you

Press "#" to delete a contact.

Keyboard shortcuts for Message management

Press "G + C" to go to inbox

Press "G + S" to open starred conversation

Press "G + D" to open drafts

Press "G + T" to go to sent messages

Keyboard shorcuts for Actions and Applications

Press "/" it will allow you to use the search box to search for emails

Press "Z" to undo the last action

Press" Esc" to escape from input field
